because it's really hard to not overreact or underreact because you're sort of being, I think triggered is probably the appropriate word.
But I imagine that to layer on top of all that energy, if you have ADHD and you start seeing the struggles that you had as a child and your own children, it would be so hard to respond rather than react to the situation.
Yeah, and tragically just end up repeating the mistake that you could have done without as a child.
That's brilliant.
And just to be even more granular than that, how do I know that that was the stressor?
Like how do I know that it was bright lights or loud noise or whatever?
I see the challenge for, I mean, self-regulation, as you said, is a challenge that we'll have for our whole lives.
But as a parent, I find that keeping myself in a zone of emotional regulation is one of the biggest challenges because when I stuff it up, it's when I really stuff up parenting.
Is that, I'm assuming that is another level of difficulty for an ADHD parent.
It's such an important point that I think it's a real weakness of mine as a parent is that I always – I'm not good – I always feel guilty taking time for myself and I'm really bad at putting things into like routine or things that will give myself a break to get my brain back into a regulated state and then I start –
um overreacting to things and i get myself into a point where it's bad for everyone but i think i'm kind of this martyr that's like i'm always here i'm always doing like i'm never taking a break and i i need to remind myself that it's actually it's making you a not so good parent and it's actually the kids who are suffering here as much as you it's better for you to take some time away absolutely so you can be the parent they need you to be
Yeah, I don't know why.
I think you said it before I think pretty well is that I don't feel like I deserve it for some reason.
It's like I can hit myself with both sides of the hammer.
Like you're not good at those things but you don't deserve to have an excuse.
Yeah, yeah, it's not nice.
Yeah, but then I think I do have many traits that would be from people
from what we've been talking about.
But I also wonder if it's just like the world in which
We live like we've designed a world that makes those traits a lot worse.
