And Uncle Ray had this amazing ability to drive up
to Christchurch to see us with Aunty Valmai, and Ray could just tell stories around the table that would just light up the room.
And I'd just go, how do you do that?
And my dad had a great sense of humour, but Uncle Ray could make him laugh like nobody else.
And Dad had a very stressful job, and I was thinking, wow, look at the superpower.
you have to make my dad laugh like that and that became like I guess almost a goal of mine to go if I can do that then look that would just that's like walking on water like come on and I would just watch him with people and just didn't matter how young or old they were he could just he could just make them laugh like laugh out loud funny stories being a bit of a cheeky bugger
You know, here we go, here's trouble.
And it was just that.
And I remember from a young, young age, visiting Uncle Ray or when Uncle Ray came to visit was just like, okay, okay, good uncle, good stories, good laughs.
And I remember just thinking, look at the good that you can do with making people laugh.
Yeah.
Yeah, those people that just turn up in your life or are in your life and you think, yep, no, I don't want to be like you or not interested in that, but you, yeah, what are you, what's your secret sauce and how do I get a bit of that?
I think so.
Well, as I got a bit older and, you know, when I say that, like probably 9, 10, 11, 12.
You know, when I got to that old age.
I tried to make Uncle Ray laugh and I could make him laugh occasionally.
So I thought, wow, like this is Anakin and Yoda.
This is like, wait a minute.
Like who is the master now?
And I loved that.
