Because that's where they were a calendar year ago, although Detroit's played much better ball in May than they did in April.
And they've become an incredibly athletic baseball team.

have become one of the most patient attacks in the league.
Not that they can't score quickly, but you look at their team on base percentage, and you look, by and large, at every individual who contributes offensively on a regular basis.
With the exception of Jorge Mateo, they're getting on base at a clip that any team would aspire to.
The bullpen was dominant last year.
The bullpen's even better this year.
They essentially have two of the best closers in Major League Baseball in Yannier Cano and Felix Batista, both of whom are capable of giving you more than three outs.
And the starting pitching has, I would say, overachieved.
Not a lot of household names.
Not a lot of guys who are going to go into the seventh inning with any regularity.
But they keep you in games.
They're competitive.
You know, and...
With that bullpen, five and a third, five and two-thirds, six, even four and a third can be more than enough on a lot of nights.
And they also have a flair for the dramatic.
I mean, they've got 19 come-from-behind wins already.
They're one of the best offenses in baseball.
