and looking back, I think I got the.
I think the book does a really, really good job of sort of making it feel very immediate for the reader.
I think like the television show, it does a very good job of describing each character, each person.
There's a sense we had when we made the show of the people we were really playing and who really lived and really died and did this thing.
And I just think Stephen Ambrose, it's no it's no surprise that he inspired the series, you know, certainly from my own point of view.
I remember being being on the set and a crew member said, you know, they're having they're unveiling a memorial in this little town called Bousville-aux-Plains in France.
And, you know, you should go along.
So I thought, OK, well, you know, why not?
So I showed up at this little this little chapel in Normandy and they wouldn't let me in.
They were like, who the hell is this guy, you know?
And I said, in my finest French, I said, And as soon as I said Steven Spielberg, the seas parted and I walked in.
And it was just this beautiful little memorial service.
And afterwards...
This couple of Belgian guys took me to a field and they said, this is where the plane your character was on.
The man you really played, the man you played was on.
And this corner of the field, there's still grass that doesn't grow in that corner.
It's still after all these years, 65 years later.
And apparently the plane had burned for three days.
And so there's still this dark patch in the corner of the field.
And they said, we found this.
