You've got whatever was going on with the Nazis and this kind of breakaway stuff that had been extracted after the war, which some Americans were clearly sanctioning.
So I just think there are these layers of knowledge.
There's this onion of understanding.
So when we look at the 50s, it's very easy to look at certain groups and say, you're covering it up.
But I don't think it's that simple.
I think the people who had an understanding of all of those layers probably were a very small group of people, which I'm still piecing that together, but I find that many layers of that to be fascinating.
Yeah, I do get that.
I do.
I totally empathize with the panic.
And I think especially for Truman, I don't think Truman would have had access to everything.
Because you've got to remember, Truman was, I think, 10 years before he became president.
And he was the guy who was really having to deal with this.
But he was just working as a farmer.
He was just a really normal person who somehow found his way into politics, moved up the ranks, and then FDR dies and he's just about become VP.
And now suddenly he's president.
Okay.
He's a total outsider.
The people who were controlling the intelligence apparatus during the war, the people who were basically controlling the government before the war, were these massive industrialists, Rockefeller, who were very close with the Dulleses and the Melons and these huge titans who basically could tell the government to do whatever they wanted.
And they controlled the intelligence apparatus during the war.
