And when they hear that I'm pushing for things like tuition-free college, like freezing utility rates, like universal childcare, and that I want to disband and abolish ICE and its reign of terror once and for all, and he's just talking about reforming it, trying to rein it in.
and that I'm fighting to impeach, remove, and prosecute Trump and hold everyone accountable who's been participating in these high crimes and misdemeanors, then they're coming to me.
And we've got a huge opportunity to have this be the next big progressive victory after Colorado, after New York.
And we're driving toward it with all we got.
Tell folks a little bit about your background.
How did you end up in jail so many times?
That's right.
Yeah, I've been arrested over 25 times in nonviolent civil disobedience.
First time probably in 2001 when I was a college student in Washington, D.C., mass protests of the International Monarchy.
I've been a community organizer and a leader in nonviolent struggles for many years, a primary founder of nonprofit organizations and social movement campaigns, came out of the labor movement, the anti-war movement as a college student, organized an immigrant rights movement around health care, best known for my work in terms of democracy, founding 99Rise and Democracy Spring, having
done a protest interrupting the Supreme Court that was captured on video, first time there was ever video from inside the court, and leading
um... a five hundred some mile march from los angeles to sacramento twelve straight days of citizens at the capitol there that helped to pass two bills and then in twenty sixteen the march from the liberty bell in philadelphia to dc democracy spring and mass citizens at the u.s.
capitol that capitol police said was the largest number of people ever arrested at the capitol in one day um... and i believe deeply in the tradition of
nonviolent movements of nonviolent civil disobedience and direct action, that everyday people can use this power just of our ability and our ability to choose whether to obey unjust laws or not, to withdraw our labor, to withdraw our buying power.
in addition to the ballot as tools to forge a more just society.
I'm a follower of Martin Luther King, Jr., and I believe in what he called the vision of a beloved community, a society that's rooted not in domination and greed, but in solidarity and loving our neighbors as ourselves.
And I have to say, I've been encouraged by the response of voters, right?
Even those people try to say, oh, you're a criminal and all this nonsense.
Because for me, every one of those arrests is a badge of honor, not a mark of shame.
And it's an act of deep fidelity to the law because it's about the spirit of the law, which is to serve justice and truth and the welfare of the people.
