So what are some examples of trace fossils?
Steve, I'll take one from you.
Dinosaur tracks.
Okay, the classic footprints, right?
Just perfect, right?
And we could learn so much from that.
But there's also burrows, feeding marks, even coprolites, which is fossilized excrement.
I just love the word coprolite.
Sometimes if Jay annoys me, I'll refer to him as an unfossilized coprolite, which is
Kind of a fun take down.
But also, I love you, Jay.
There's also gastroliths.
Gastroliths where there's stones, right?
Stones that are ingested to aid digestion.
So often, you know, right?
So that's another, that's a trace fossil right there.
Also stromatolites.
which are kind of like those structures that microbes built by fusing their slime with the sediment, right?
At the time, they would build these stromatolites.
So those are examples of trace fossils as well.
