Africa CDC initially declared MPOX a health emergency in August 2024, the first time the Health Agency of the African Union had declared an emergency.
It happened just as a new strain of the virus was emerging in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Jean Kaseya is the Director General of Africa CDC and says in the last six weeks, MPOX cases have dropped 90% to 140 cases last week.
But he cautions the disease is still circulating.
Kaseya says his team will continue to support countries that are dealing with MPOCs outbreaks.
