No, this is a debatable topic only because El Nino is a natural thing.

Climate change is an unnatural thing caused by man.

But this is going to be the strongest El Nino by far.

And so it is likely that all that heat that's been stored up for years and years in the Western Pacific, some of that is due to the excess heat trapped by greenhouse gases by humans.

So I do think likely we will find pretty soon that El Nino is going to be supercharged by climate change.

But

We need to do more research to be sure.

So yes, I think it's something we should talk about and research for sure.

I cannot be sure, but I know due to our seasonal models,

that it's going to be an off-the-charts El Nino.

I can't be sure that climate change is making it worse, although it probably is.

We need to do research on that.

But one thing I can say is our seasonal models, which have become really good at forecasting, almost all of them indicate a historical worst El Nino we've ever had.

And yes, there's a possibility that some of that is due to excess heat trapped by climate change in the Pacific Ocean.

No, and that's the thing about me.

I don't really get scared.

I'm a scientist.

Of course, I can be scared.

Lightning scares me.
