And that was when I, 40 years old, I get the job at Boston College and you're sitting at a staff table with 25, 30 people around it.

And it's, hey guys, I think you should do this.

I think you should do this.

And well, no, if everyone ever told me they think that I should do something, I'd go and do it and get it done as fast as I can, as good as I can.

and they get on the desk.

But when you realize that everybody doesn't think like you, and what I'm asking people to do aren't suggestions, they're get this done, you have to start dealing with conflict.

And I think after my second, third year at PC, I started understanding that more and was able to be more direct with people.

And if I didn't like something, instead of letting it frustrate me and eat me up inside and try to let them figure it out, no, I just, I went right at it and I told them the truth.

You were too nice?

I don't know if I was too nice.

Maybe I was too nice or maybe I was just naive to the fact that I figured most people just kind of thought more like I had always been trained and I wasn't correct on that.

Yeah, it's an order and that's how I always took it.

But you know what I did learn?

I was.

But I didn't know if I could say that.

I was exactly.

You were about to snarl.

Like if you told me to do something right now, I would do it and I would do the best I could and I would do it on time and I would try to do it better than anyone.

So I guess what I do remember in one meeting basically saying, guys, don't take my kindness for weakness, because if you do, this is not going to end well for you.

And I think early on, people took my kindness for weakness and that's not the case.
