So the way I look at it is this.
And I know that it would have been easier for someone like Keaton Verhoff to stay in Victoria and play and dominate.
And it would have been easier for Gavin McKenna to stay at Madison Hat and maybe rewrite the Western Hockey League record book.
They took different and different
more challenging routes where a lot of their flaws were exposed.
The one thing I always remind myself of, especially when I come here to the combine, is first of all, these scouts don't just look at one season slice.
They look at a whole body of work and they look at development and what their main job is to do as well, and this is in concert with development staff, is not so much what is this guy like right now, but what is he going to be like?
What does he project as?
What is his ceiling?
Is there anything we can glean from his track record and his history?
that lets us believe that he's going to be more than he presents right now.
Like I'll tell you, I had a really nice conversation yesterday with Ross Mahoney.
So Ross Mahoney has run 29 drafts.
Like he was, you know, he's been with the Washington Capitals forever.
And we had a really good conversation about Alexi Protis.
And the way I framed it was, I remember watching Tyler Myers in his draft year playing Kelowna.
And there were some games where I would watch and Tyler Myers looked like, this guy's got to go top three.
This kid is incredible.
Look at the size and look how he plays and holy smokes.
And then I would watch him a month and a half, two months later.
