is first of all these scouts don't just look at one season slice they look at a whole body of work and they look at development and what their main job is to do as well and this is in concert with you know development staff is not so much what's this guy going to be what is this guy like right now but what is he going to be like what does he project as what is his ceiling is there anything we can we can glean from his from his his track record and his history um
that lets us believe that he's gonna be more than he presents right now.
Like I'll tell you, I had a really nice conversation yesterday with Ross Mahoney.
So Ross Mahoney has run 29 drafts.
Like he was, he's been with the Washington Capitals forever.
And we had a really good conversation about Alexi Protis.
And the way I framed it was, I remember watching Tyler Myers in his draft year playing Kelowna.
And there were some games where I would watch and Tyler Myers looked like, this guy's got to go top three.
This kid is incredible.
Look at the size and look how he plays and holy smokes.
And then I would watch him a month and a half, two months later.
And, like, he's just gangly and Bambi, and what's he doing?
And did Tyler Myers forget how to play?
And what's in the water bottles?
Like, what's going on with Tyler Myers?
And then I remember talking to someone in Cologne.
It's like, oh, yeah, he's going through, like, a horrible and really difficult growth spurt.
And his body is, like, having to learn how to play.
We tend to forget this about 17.
They're still growing.
