But they're also aimed at you and me.
They're words calling out to those of us who feel furthest down the road to nowhere.
They're words that are crying out to people who are trapped at the dead end.
Hear these final words from the risen Jesus and John.
You
Follow me.
You who are stuck in the shame of hidden sin, follow me.
You who feel lost and disoriented and alone on the road to nowhere, follow me.
You who think that the dead end defines you, you follow me.
My love defines you.
My life is leading you into a living way.
You follow me.
While our passage today is a conclusion to John's gospel account, it's actually more like a continuation than a conclusion.
It's fitting that John's last words tell us that the work of Jesus is so vast that recorded history itself cannot contain it.
He says this in verse twenty five.
Now there are also many other things that Jesus did, were every one of them to be written.
I suppose that the world itself could not contain the books that would be written.
I love that.
The good news that John recorded is still ringing into our lives today.
