I also think fans are sold this idea that parity, that competitive balance,
is directly caused by salary caps rather than correlated by it.
And what I wanted to do was to ask the owners essentially one question.
What can be achieved through a salary cap that can't be achieved through other means, through some kind of compromise that's more like the current system, but the current system with twists and with amendments and with adulterations and the current system upgraded?
And I've still yet to hear the answer to that from anybody on that side.

I mean, right now, MLB.
Jeff, MLB's proposal right now offers free agency a year earlier for anybody who's 30 and under, or excuse me, 30 and over.
So if you've reached five years of service by the time you're 30 years old, you are a free agent under MLB's proposal.
And the way that the union is addressing this,
is that, hey, at the end of the day, the players are still receiving the same amount.
just being distributed a little bit differently.
But I think it is a meaningful thing for almost half the guys who eventually reach free agency.
Under MLB's plan, they would have reached it a year earlier.
And that's a compelling thing.
So, you know, there are a lot of pieces.
of MLB's proposal that in a vacuum,
actually would not be bad for players and would be beneficial.
But they all come with the ultimate restriction, the restriction of the ability to earn what a free market that has existed for the entirety of Major League Baseball's labor relations era, that goes away.
And that's just not something at this point, I think, that the players are willing to give up on.
