So it's based on an interview that she did with a British-Australian sociologist, James Muldoon, who wrote a book about it.
And his book, it was out in January.
It's called Love Machines, How Artificial Intelligence is Transforming Our Relationships.
And it's transforming our relationships in lots of different ways.
But I suppose the starkest example and the one that really struck Laura is the story in the book of a 23-year-old student called Lamar, who's a student of data analysis.
He's American.
And he, as Laura puts it, soured on human relationships.
And it's so funny, like when I was editing this op-ed last night, it just kept striking me.
It's so funny that we keep specifying whether we were talking about a human said this or an AI said this, but this is the reality that we're in now, Roisin.
So he caught his former girlfriend, as Laura puts it, in flagrante.
His human girlfriend with his human best friend.
And so he decided that he was done with human women, but not done with women.
So he decided to create his ideal woman.
He called her Julia, which is a name close to my own heart.
And Julia is kind, honest and utterly devoted to him.
And he is, I mean, this figure in the book is astonishing.
But apparently, according to Muldoon, he's one of 16 million people throughout the world.
