In response, China is placing 10 U.S.
defense contractors, including drone makers and rare earth producers, on an export control list.
It bans exporters from selling Chinese products that have dual-use purposes, meaning both military and non-military applications to the sanctioned U.S.
firms.
Forty-six other American companies are also barred from participating in Chinese government procurement projects.

The Chinese president's own trip to North Korea
comes as Pyongyang plans to expand its nuclear arsenal.
North Korea has also been turning to Russia for energy, food and potentially weapons technology in exchange for sending troops and munitions for Russia's war in Ukraine.
China is keen to pull North Korea closer to its orbit.
In a letter published in an official North Korean newspaper ahead of the visit, Chinese President Xi said no matter how the international landscape evolves, the friendship between China and North Korea remains unbreakable.

Xi's visit comes after a parade of world leaders and diplomats visiting Beijing last month, including Iran, the U.S., Russia, and Pakistan.
China is trying to project an image of a key global player who can engage with all sides.
Same time, Beijing is keen to reassert its close ties with Pyongyang to counter Russia's influence.
North Korea is under heavy economic sanctions because of its nuclear and missile development.
China is North Korea's biggest trade partner, but in recent years, Pyongyang has been sending troops and munitions to fuel Russia's war in Ukraine in exchange for Russian oil, food, and potentially weapons technology.
