I feel like you know in your poems it's very musical and rhythmical and you can hear all that resonating when you're performing and that has always felt to me, yeah there's a deep kind of musical connection for you.

There's comedy going on.

and social commentary you know that all these things are sort of happening once and you're moving your body and you're using your voice and I've heard you talk about the art of performance poetry as being something that needs to encapsulate all these are all tools in your toolbox in a way is that how you

would describe it, or how do you feel about that?

But it also means you can grapple with quite big ideas and...

people can absorb them almost without even knowing can't they because they're engaged they're enjoying themselves they're probably laughing and at the same time you might be talking about existentialism or post-structuralism yeah yeah and it's kind of it it's all in there but it's it's very different than if someone was giving a lecture or reading very seriously from a book like this

And you have directed plays and written plays as well, like proper plays.

I guess that's the other nice thing about performance poetry is that it's very much you working with yourself.

So I think something like theatre or film, it's always a collaborative process on some level, whereas you can really...

work on that yourself, even if you are, you know, I suppose it is a collaboration with the audience ultimately.
