He had his own children.
He had two sons and a daughter, and he ended up adopting my mom's kids.

The weather in Illinois is really harsh, very hard winters.
And my father had developed heart disease, cardiovascular disease.
So they determined that that was too hard on his heart, the cold weather.
And he liked to work outside and it was just too much for him.
He was an educator.
Both my parents were teachers.
He taught adult education.
He actually started adult education in the state of Illinois in the 70s.
And he loved what he did.
He loved teaching adults who had never had the opportunity or the privilege of learning how to read.
They're people that just want to learn how to read.
