and then by reporting on it, make it significant is so interesting to me, but I think it is not a new idea.
So I think what I was interested in this article is that there are a lot of concepts here that are not new.
And so I think I was trying to put my finger on what makes this iteration so disturbing.
Because like there is a long history of insidious advertising and insidious attempts to control people's opinions.
Right.
There's like going back, there's a decades long at minimum, um,
history of celebrities going on talk shows and then just they happen to mention a brand in passing as if it's part of the conversation, but we know they've been paid, right?
Exactly.
One of my favorite stories about this.
So, you know, like decades ago, there was a huge war, like the sneaker war between Adidas and Puma.
Because Adidas was founded by two brothers.
This isn't the tale as old as time.
They got in a fight.
One brother moved to the other side of town and started Puma.
And it became this like huge war.
And so at one point, Pele was like, you know, the biggest soccer star in the world.
And at the opening of a World Cup game, Puma quietly paid him to, as he was walking out to start the game,
right before the game asked the ref, Hey, can I have a second to tie my shoes?
And then he bent down and tied his shoes because everybody knew everybody's going to be watching Pele in this moment.
So he was wearing Puma shoes.
