Uh and the focus was community development.

Uh essentially it was listening to residents, identifying what mattered to them and then supporting them and turning those ideas into action.

Uh a lot of the early work began um it was heavily focused on building relationships, like I said, uh but creating opportunities for people to connect and then also establishing this practical support uh through services and programs within the valley that they could access.

Yeah.

Absolutely led by the people of Northeast Valley.

We that's the the heart of what the work that we do is listening to people and and what uh they come to us with ideas and initiatives that they feel strongly about.

You know, it started out as grassroots where there was a lot of different um groups of people that had brilliant ideas.

They were very passionate about what they did.

And um Valley Project was sort of established as a hub that brought all of them together uh in a way that um we could uh build upon that and support people could support each other and um, you know, have these ideas come to fruition.

I was gonna say we have um we could talk forever, I reckon, on quite a few things that we do uh in that realm.

Um we do annual things like we have litter pickups and we do that uh biannually and we uh work with school groups um on waste reduction and that sort of thing.

But we have ongoing programs um like for example, we have uh waste minimization

Initiative that we look at every single year.

In the past, we have done things like having a waste aversion day where people can bring things in and either they recycle them or we organize it to be um reused for something else.

But this year we're taking a bit of a different approach in that we're um having a workshop series coming up in the month of September.

Uh and it's specifically aimed at waste minimization.

So we are addressing things like tool refurbishment, stitching up clothing that can be reused or repurposed.
