As Jesus is sitting down with his disciples at the Last Supper, he tells them again of what is to come.
Jesus said, Now the Son of Man is glorified, and God is glorified in him.
If God is glorified in him, God will glorify the Son in himself and will glorify him at once.
My children, I will be with you only a little longer.
You will look for me, and just as I told the Jews, so I tell you now, where I am going you cannot come.
Jesus is about to be glorified, revealed for who he is.
Jesus knows that this is through his death, but his disciples don't know exactly what he means.
Peter's about to ask about exactly what Jesus means by this, but before John recounts that part of the conversation, he tells us something else that Jesus taught the disciples at this table.
Verse 34.
A new command I give you, love one another.
As I have loved you, so you must love one another.
By this, everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.
Jesus tells us the answer to the Christian version of, there will be signs.
But he doesn't say Christian, he says disciple.
And that's because in the Bible, our modern word for Christianity isn't used.
Instead, Jesus refers to those with true belief as his disciples.
In that time period, a disciple was someone who literally followed around a rabbi, a teacher of the Torah, to learn from them, to copy them, to be like them.
That's what Jesus expects of his followers as well.
