Romans 1017 tells us faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ.
Our faith comes from knowing about who Jesus is and what he did for us, and it is with that understanding that we too can stand firm against the temptations of the devil.
Hebrews 2.18 tells us, because he himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those, that's us who are being tempted.
Jesus can empathize with us, with our struggle, with our human limitations, but he is also able to help us.
We have access to the same spirit that he had access to.
He has walked through temptation as we have, and he wants to walk with us through our own.
Like Jesus, we may be physically weak, but we can resist by being spiritually strong, filled with the Spirit, spending time with him, abiding in him, knowing the Word of God, feasting on it, depending on it, so that Christ can strengthen us.
Now you and I, we will most likely fail.
We will fall into temptation, we will get distracted by our physical needs, we will test God, we will mistrust his choices to take us into the wilderness.
We'll make compromises to fulfill our own agendas rather than trusting in his plan.
But
When we fail.
Oh we can look up.
And see Jesus.
The one who did not sin, who faithfully walked from wilderness to the cross and secured our place, even knowing our weakness.
Jesus did.
