In the words of Betzal Smotrich, the finance minister, who's one of the most vocal and militant of settler leaders, who is in the cabinet of course, uh, he says that plan is designed to bury the idea of a Palestinian state.
Well, it's a phrase that came into into use describing what was going on in the wars of Yugoslavia in the nineteen nineties of former Yugoslavia, when Yugoslavia was breaking up when uh hundreds of thousands of people were displaced by force and with a lot of violence.
Uh I saw a lot of it myself as a reporter there.
And I think his description of what's going on in the West Bank actually is very accurate, because that is what's happening.
Well, they're gonna be absolutely furious about this.
Uh they will be coming out with some very strong statements condemning it.
I think they'll probably be saying that it's Jew hate, that it's anti Semitic, um, and they will no doubt try to do take some um actions themselves to to push back against it.
Uh I have to say that in many, many years of reporting on this story, I cannot recall a single time when I've heard a representation.

Because while for many years British successive British governments and others have talked about the need for a two-state solution, it is possible to make a strong argument to say that they have actually done virtually nothing to make it happen.
And indeed they have enabled those who are against it by not speaking out about things that have been happening, which have been playing as a pike staff in terms of the massive influx of Jewish settlers and the amount of development that's going on, which many in Israel have been absolutely clear, unapologetically so, are designed to make sure that that land
never becomes part of any kind of Palestinian
Yeah, I thought that was actually a really significant point in the things that he was saying.
He was referring back to uh an advisory opinion issued by the International Court of Justice, which is the highest um legal organ of the United Nations and which is of course, among other things, looking at the genocide case against Israel and Gaza at the moment.
