Of course, I talk about it in the book.
Anti-colonialism, the decolonization project, wasn't always a race-based project.
South Africa is the perfect example.
It was multiracial.
And in the Portuguese context,
Colin, is the same was true, definitely.
And at the time of the end of the struggle in Angola in 1975,
after there'd been a military coup by left-wing officers in Lisbon, a lot of the army, Portuguese army, who had a life and kind of billeting in Angola for years, chose to stay and support the independence movement.
So I think that's a really good point.
And one to be, one I always bear in mind, and it's something going back to Sarah Malderoy, the film director,
She didn't like to be drawn into this idea of black cinema or black this or black the other, although she identified herself as black.
But she said, if we're talking about struggles, we're going to have to describe them in some other broader way.
than simply in terms of race.
We're going to have to talk about equality.
There's a big project available to everybody, of course black people, but we're not going to go about this as a racially defined liberation project.
And she's on record saying, yeah, I'm black, by the way, so don't you answer me like that.
But then she'd change her mind the next moment and say, you know, that's only a manner of speaking.
because her sensitivity about racism, of course it lives in animated tension with her socialism.
Why wouldn't it?
She's the most fascinated with Big Bang in some ways.
