I think anytime your goal substantially changes, check in and check in on your asset allocation.
Anytime your cash flow changes a lot.
So it could be that you've got a big pay rise or you just bought a place or you are going to start a family or expand your family.
Like that's a good time to check in with it.
Otherwise, if you are someone who is impulsive, if you're a new investor, if you are someone who is terrified and just learning, like once a year is fine.
Wow.
Because I have watched so many people tell me
Oh, my God.
In the first six months, I was checking it daily.
I've been doing that, Jess.
Again, self-confessed.
Yeah, it's so common because don't you feel super clever when it's gone up?
This is an emotional rollercoaster.
And like while it's going up, you're like, this is so fun and I get so much dopamine from seeing how clever I am.
But this is out of your control to a huge extent.
Like what you invest in is within your realm of control.
It's when they are not going well, when they're not going well for a whole week, for a whole month, for a whole year, for a couple of years.
It is one thing to say buy the dip, which is like, you know, keep investing when prices are low.
But it is so hard to stay the course.
If you are checking daily when markets are down for a really long time and like a lot of investors that I have seen haven't really weathered a big financial storm.
