You know, I mean, think of it a community that just does everything their religious.

the religious leader says that's a powerful place for them.

Yeah, yeah.

I mean, I really don't find that to be the the case.

I I honestly don't think a lot of men, first of all, understand the anatomy and really don't understand what's happening.

And it's yeah, it's just way more complicated.

So one of the biggest misconceptions is that all the men in these communities support FGM.

They don't.

Surveys from practicing countries in Africa and the Middle East suggest that roughly, you know, 200 million boys and men, they want the practice to end.

And in many communities, parents with young daughters, they don't want it to continue.

Because people aren't just responding to what they personally believe, they're responding to what they think everyone else believes.

You know, one of the strongest drivers of FGM is the assumption that men will only marry girls who've been cut.

That a girl who is not cut will not find a husband.

So when men in a community publicly and visibly say, I will marry an uncut woman, they are directly dismantling the social math that makes FGM feel like a necessary protection for girls' futures.

That can change everything.

It's gotta be really hard.

You know, we're it we have to take ourselves out of our lifestyle and think how difficult that probably is for them to speak up.

But in many households

Fathers and brothers are aware that FGM is happening to their daughters and sisters, but they stay silent, sometimes out of deference to the women in the family who are driving the decision, sometimes because speaking up feels like a violation of the gender norms that define their role.

You know, the moral weight of that silence and what it costs men psychologically to carry it, that's real.
