Well, it's probably worth saying that my prime source of inspiration is songs by such an enormous factor.
I spend way, way more time, like a thousand times more
more time listening to music than I do going to the theatre.
And I find puzzling what's going on at the heart of a song just so wonderful and haunting.
And I'm always looking for new things that will do that to me.

It's my tragedy that I can't write songs.
Well, I mean, I just, I've never really sort of like been able to do what I can do so quickly if I'm writing a character, say in a film or something, which is just speak through another voice.
I just got, because it's something about it being a song, I've been unable to access a persona to hide behind.
And it seems like it should be really simple, but I don't know why it is.
It's like it's on the other side of something.
I just can't.
And I find that, like, endlessly, endlessly fascinating.
I really do.
I mean, I think what's at the heart of a great song is...
to me is even more mysterious than what's at the heart of a great play.
