So that's one of the benefits of ISAs.
A federal student loan offers something similar.
But a lot of students cannot pay their entire tuition just on federal student loans because there's a maximum to how much you can take out.
So those students turn to private loans or their parents take out a federal student loan on their behalf.
And an ISA can be a good alternative to those products because those products don't have the same protections as a federal student loan or the same great payment arrangements.
Right.
So there are a lot of people who work on college affordability issues who say that the way to fix the student debt crisis is not to create another financial product that makes it easier for students and families to borrow.
The way to do it is for colleges to lower their costs, for them to look for ways to provide more scholarships.
for states and for state and local governments to invest more in their public universities so that they can lower tuition and things like that.
So in that sense, you know, it's a little bit controversial.
Colleges, some people think colleges should not be turning to these agreements and that they should be looking for ways to make college more affordable.
Yeah.
So Purdue is the first sort of major university to really have its own program.
In the 2016 to 2017 academic year, they had more than 160 students use an ISA to pay for some of their Purdue tuition.
And that was spearheaded by Mitch Daniels, who used to be the Republican governor of Indiana.
He's sort of a free market guy kind of on the forefront of
you know, new, innovative, less reliant on government ways to, you know, to finance things.
And so he also has a lot of political capital.
So he was sort of willing to stick his neck out there and give it a try.
