And this is one thing with Gonzalez is just they shield them against left handed pitching.

They play a lot of platoons, a lot of pinch hitting and such.

And it's been effective for them based on just where they are in the standings.

But I think it also is a little bit of a, you know.

it's a little exhausting or there might be a little bit of a fog of war when it comes to Venable's decision-making in terms of how many pinch hitters he goes through.

And then it's the ninth inning and he's out of pinch hitters and a lefty or two lefties have to hit against their oldest Chapman, which is what you don't want.

So I think having Murakami in there as one guy who never has to be pinch hit for simplifies the decision-making and allows Venable to have options for the guys who truly need it.

Well, I wouldn't say critical necessarily.

It's just we're so used to games not mattering, watching the White Sox, that it's actually refreshing to have to care about an individual pitching change or an individual lineup decision.

So when it comes to Venable, this is his second year.

First year was pure development, culture establishing, trying to find anybody who's useful.

Now it's a case of trying to...

figure out what exactly he sees, how his philosophy applies to a team that has real ambitions.

And I think the White Sox are just at this point where their starting pitching has been spread pretty thin.

Bolton's had to carry a lot of innings.

And so

they just don't want to warm up anybody if they don't necessarily have to.

And so it looks ugly at times.

It looks almost like a sleep at the wheel, but I think they are just trying to keep arms fresh because they know, especially, you know, Davis Martin, uh, kind of limping into the break a little bit that, uh,

you know, getting five innings out of a starter the next day is probably a victory, but that still leaves four innings for the bullpen to cover.
