And so when I could take an individual and I could take these big giant quarter-size holes in their ear, and I could repair that mutilation and I could line them up with the Jimmy Johns training program and the journey at Jimmy John's.
John's and provide them not only self-esteem but an opportunity to grow as much as they wanted to grow.
It was just sort of this natural, beautiful harmony that was uh not because I'm philanthropic or because I'm virtuous or because I give back, but because it was a winner winner.
It was a beautiful, symbiotic harmony.
So that became just part of my MO and how I live my life.
And uh my mother, whose name is Grajina Leoto, was Grajna Godaita, she was a Lithuanian refugee.
And she came from Lithuania when she was about 10 years old when Russia invaded Lithuania in the middle of the night.
They were bombed out of their home.
She spent two years on the run and ended up in a DP camp in Germany and finally came to America to Ellis Island.
Came to Chicago to the Lithuanian community.
She came, she was about 13 or 14 years old, early 50s, when she they finally got over here.
She uh went to University of Village.
Illinois, my mother was homecoming queen at University of Illinois, met my father, they got married, and my father was an entrepreneur as well.
My father was a book salesman and then he uh became a plastic molder.
And we went through a couple of bankruptcies back when I was a kid.
And we came out of that back in 76, was my dad's last bankruptcy.
And my dad said, I'm never gonna have debt again.
He had more success.
And my mother said, you know, I'm gonna start bringing kids from Lithuania that have bone disorders.
I don't know how she chose bone disorders, and bring them to Chicago and help them and repair these bone disorders.
