Really sit with it.

Give yourself a little space to breathe, to let the question percolate a little bit, because they're really, really important.

So the first question is, do you have a clear understanding of the quality of your work?

And what I mean by a clear understanding is, like, if you're the only people who have ever seen your work or people who love and adore you, then that might not be a kind of neutral response to your work.

So have you applied to exhibitions or have you had art critiques or have you had things like that where you have a really honest, clear reflection about –

the view of how people are perceiving your work.

Now, having said that, I want to tell you, and I've mentioned this before, back when I first started 23 years ago, I didn't have... We really didn't even have the internet.

So I didn't have a good way of comparing my work to what was good and not good and not having gone to art school.

All I was really doing was I was comparing my work from like...

three months before and I already knew I was better or maybe from a year before and I already knew my work was better so in my mind I was like holy shit I'm my work is amazing but it wasn't it absolutely wasn't it was better than I first started but it wasn't that great but I will say just having that little bit of confidence

actually served me okay so I'm not saying your work has to be perfect or and I'm not even saying it has to be gallery ready but you do need to have a pretty and clear understanding of the quality of your work and if you don't you just got to have a just like a ton of confidence right all right the second question is do you know why you paint and what your work is about
