I think that it's important to look at who's paying for what, but
Beyond all of that, beyond all the funding, we are left with a fundamental question: Is superintelligence possible?
If you say yes to any extent, 1%, 0.01%, whatever it is, if you say yes, superintelligence is possible, as that is the goal of these companies, then you have to ask one more question: Is that good?
Is that preferable?
Or is that bad?
Is it despicable?
And if you come down on the ladder side as I do, then you have to say, Well, what are we going to do about it?
And I say that a superintelligence ban is the sanest possible approach.
And if the s if the doubters don't believe superintelligence is possible, and if a superintelligence ban does not affect open source or does not affect upstarts, then why would they even care?
But David Sachs, who says he doesn't
Believe in superintelligence as a possibility, is fighting mercilessly to make sure that anyone who is pushing for a superintelligence ban is smeared as some kind of effective altruist droid.
It's also disingenuous.
I think that people know that they are being imposed upon in a way that is completely unacceptable.
Culturally, morally, spiritually.
And I think that people people in America have every right to do anything possible to ensure that they, their businesses, their c communities, and their families are not subject to this predatory machine.
It's been transformative to say the least.
I mean, I've always traveled around my whole life and I've always talked to people, but in this context where it's centered around this one subject, a subject I've been obsessed with for decades, it's on the one hand, it's strengthened my conviction that opposition to the tech companies, and in some cases opposition to certain technologies entirely, is not only warranted, but it's shared across.
All of these different types of people.
It's not anyone's race, it's not anyone culture.
It's shared among them.
