The Shreveport Police Department says officers were called to a home in the city Sunday morning for what a police spokesperson described as a domestic disturbance.
The suspect then allegedly committed a carjacking and led police on a chase before officers opened fire and the suspect died.
The children who were killed ranged in age from 1 to 14 years old.
Police said one of the victims fled to an adjacent home and that authorities were alerted to a third crime scene nearby.
Authorities said some of the victims were his, quote, descendants.

These are the longest wait times in TSA history.

Over the weekend, BWI Airport in Baltimore was telling travelers to arrive three to four hours before their flights.
NPR spoke with one traveler in the security line there, Darren Davis, who was flying from Baltimore to Atlanta, which he does often.
