Of course opposition parties say that's impractical and it will drag us back into the uh Brexit uh debates of of
Yeah, and on that, I think what was most interesting about the speech Robert Jenric gave this morning was the reasonably nuanced tone he tried to strike.
There was a message of reassurance in his language that those who are vulnerable, seriously ill, who definitely need uh, you know, what are our personal independence payments will still get that support.
But that also uh there will be different changes and different restrictions.
Firstly trying to get people on, as they would see it, sort of more minor uh conditions, including some mental health conditions, uh, back into work, make it far more difficult to uh receive benefits and also have uh more regular and tougher face to face uh reassessments.
And so
Absolutely.
And what what's most interesting in from my conversation with Mr.
Jenrick this afternoon is that he didn't give me, or wasn't able to give me, I don't know, maybe he didn't want to give me, their modelling of how many people are going to be affected.
So if, as the uh plan suggests, they're going to be able to save about twenty one uh sorry, twenty three billion a year through some of these policy changes around sickness and disability benefits.
Benefits.
And you've got maybe four and a half million people in England and Wales who get one or more of these benefits.
So the sort of vague calculation would be everyone loses about five thousand, but of course everyone is not going to lose uh something, and therefore does it mean half of them will lose uh ten thousand?
We are talking about England and Wales, because of course this has devolved in in Scotland.
But m my question to him was if you can't give me the figures, your uh rival parties um would say this is this is not serious.
I suppose one explanation
possibly I don't know this one explanation is if
He he gave us a number, it it might scare people.
And maybe that's something he wanted uh to avoid doing.
Because as Ben says, this is really massive, serious.
