Did somebody get access to that lock?
Or is it commonly unlocked?
That's a big question, too, because some people feel secure in their homes.

Are there any tool marks on the key access area, that point where you make contact with a key going into the lock?
Did anybody pry anything?
Was anything pressured?
Did somebody put a shoulder into it?
Does it open in?
Does it open out?
Is it something you have to pull?
So all of those dynamics come into play.

This is how your brain has to work as an investigator.
You want to consider all possibilities.
