So they use the analogy of, you know, the fact that when you read the Gospels, you have a movie of it in your head.
And so you are doing interpretive things in even the act of reading yourself as an individual.
And ultimately, the person who is writing or directing or creating a film about Jesus is doing the same thing.
They're just creating a tangible product that is the kind of measurable, physical, visible result of their interpretive decisions.
But we all make interpretive decisions when we read.
So I, you know, I'll talk more about my opinion later, but I, first of all, I have to say, I really like that.
I like that approach a lot.
And so I was pleasantly surprised that this was not merely a commentary on how Jesus movies, you know, are, how effective or whatever they are.
It's really not that it's doing something much more deeper and I think much more interesting.
That said, one of the co-authors,
surveyed an unbelievable amount of jesus films stuff from very old like early days of cinema early 1900s kind of material stuff from all over the globe non-english movies full full presentations of gospel stories i mean i was i think i think they say that they watched over 200 jesus films in preparation for this work which really kind of gobs back me and it's pretty impressive they survey the survey that they accomplished
Um, but what they do through the book is they move through some specific topics, which I'll comment on briefly, just so you kind of know what you're getting into with this one.
They talk about the task of like harmonizing the gospel.
So how, you know, we, we bring, we kind of meld the events of the four different gospels together in a lot of ways, especially the Christmas, you know, nativity story is a great example of this.
So they talk about harmonization.
They talk about filling in gaps between the, you know, things that are not written about in the
They talk about interpreting characters like Thomas or Mary Magdalene or Judas and the Pharisees, Pilate.
They talk about the need to kind of like add more characterization work.
And of course, Jesus is an example of that as well.
And then they do throughout all of this, they survey films that make these certain decisions.
