The industry evolves every year.

Tell me which year we didn't get some new change coming in.

But the core responsibility is constant.

Trustees and principal officers must always put members first, even when it's inconvenient.

And so the principle is never lost.

Independence will remain meaningful rather than purely procedural.

And it's up to us to do that.

And I think my parting point would be independence is not proved by how a board is described.

It's proved how consistently that board acts in the interest of members, even when the decisions are difficult.

So that's what I will leave my younger

generation of trustees with.
