I obviously know this is I was I was excited to go to Afghanistan, as everybody else in my platoon was.
But it I had that stupid mental model that I was gonna have this transitional period.
You're gonna get there, you're gonna slow roll your way into combat and you'll figure it out.
No, it's like you're gonna arrive and go to war.
And I remember dropping to my knees before we were supposed to go out that night and praying that we did not go out.
Like and I'm not
I don't know what else to do.
Uh and so we we ended up actually not going out the night.
We went the next day.
And I was like very thankful to have a little bit of a breathing room.
And then, you know, we go we go out the next day and
Nothing happens.
Like as as I discovered in Afghanistan, it's pretty typical.
Oh, we're gonna go into this village.
We hear there's like 75 fighters and there's bomb makers, there's me this, and you get there, nothing happens.
Like friendly villagers, like nothing happens.
Okay.
But then conversely, it was fairly common to be like, ah, we're gonna go out, like this is nothing, we don't expect anything, and you get killed, like just destroyed by whoever's out there.
Um
But so that operation that we ultimately did, the first one, I basically wished we I didn't want to do it.
