Phenomenal military capabilities by our fighting men and women, but not an adequate planning strategy and sense of history by this administration, which is unfortunately not a surprise.
Well, a couple things, right?
I mean, first is the guy is just going on blind faith, which is what happens when you have cult personalities and weak people who gravitate to strong leaders.
The second thing you saw there is this guy's a buddy of his, has a different opinion about a war that he doesn't even have a strategy or reason for supporting other than Donald Trump said it was a good thing to do.
And when his buddy said, you know, I'm actually not on board, the guy, the first fellow did exactly what folks in cults do.
And I wrote about this in Wingnuts 15 years ago.
It's called, you hunt for heretics.
You need to punish personally anyone who departs from the party line, make an example of them, to keep other folks in line.
And the fact that he just ditched his friend
for daring to raise a question about a war that has not been explained or sold to the American people.
That's another piece of this, right?
I don't blame the guy for not being able to explain it because Trump and his team didn't bother explaining it to us in the first place.
Go back to the first Gulf War, go back to the Iran war, the Iraq war, which was disastrous decision.
We should have kept our focus on Afghanistan.
There was a process of selling it on false pretexts in the second, but very solid rationale in the first with James Baker and George H.W.
Bush.
In democracies, you have to make a case to the people.
And that, you know, if we're attacked and we're responding, that's a different cadence.
But the Trump administration has contempt for the popular will of the American people.
And the fact you're seeing that play out in that friend group is a very big deal.
