The thing with the AL this year is like you don't necessarily have to buy what any of these wildcard teams are selling because

That last wild card spot could just be whoever falls backward into it and whoever's playing well down the stretch and

If that momentum continues for whatever team, they might win a round or two in the playoffs or go even farther than that.

I mean, I've never seen anything like this.

None of us have seen anything like this with all of these

below five hundred teams clustered around each other for that last spot.

And

I don't know how much it is about buying what these teams are selling, as much as it is whoever sort of catches lightning in a bottle down the stretch is gonna get that last playoff spot maybe with eighty one wins.

Yeah, I mean I think when the league and the union agreed to expand the playoffs, the worry on the union side was that it will cause teams to not really make much of an effort, knowing that they can fall backwards into a playoff spot like we might be seeing here this year.

The league's opinion was look, it gives teams more of a chance to compete, it gives teams

greater disincentive against rebuilding because you can win maybe eighty eighty one games and get into the playoffs.

I think that this year it's interesting that we've seen teams like the Orioles who sold at the deadline now be in position of that last wild card spot and other teams that sold or did little at the deadline potentially have a chance of winning that.

You know, teams can sort of play the long game for the future of maybe selling off pieces that

aren't under contract for next year, but also still have a chance of making the playoffs if they play well down the stretch.
