And the legislature then enacts a law which creates the California Rangers.
The California Rangers were modeled after the Texas Rangers.
Their captain chosen was Harry Love, who's a famous former Texas Ranger, a Mexican war veteran.
He was the first man to navigate and map the upper Rio Grande River.
He was also a very famous express rider for the U.S.
Army for several years after the Mexican War ended in 1848.
And then he finally joined the gold rush not to be a lawman but to make it rich.
That's correct.
He's captured for stealing livestock, turned over to Harry Love.
