There are some national security things we should be concerned about.
But you treat each of those in the way that's required.
If you want to have a trade war with China, a sensible way to do it would be to get your friends and allies who have also been mistreated by China on your side to go after the malfeasance.
Instead, Trump's declared war on our allies and our adversaries alike.
And he hasn't really focused on what the real issues are.
We're going to have not just
enormous economic consequences from these tariffs, almost all of them negative.
But people around the world just think we've lost our compass, that we don't understand that the trading system we've got, which is not perfect, has nonetheless delivered us a lot of tangible benefits.
Trump acts like things happen in the world that we do out of the goodness of our heart, not because they're in our national interest.
And they are, but nobody's explaining that to him.
Well, I would enforce in what is already a potentially crisis situation, a crisis in confidence by removing the chairman of the Federal Reserve Board.
The constitutional question, whether the president has the authority to do that, we're going to get a decision from the Supreme Court fairly soon.
But I'd leave Powell out of it for now.
If the court rules to overrule Humphrey's executor, the 1935 case that
restricted the president's removal power, then we'll see what happens.
But there's no need to make the current trade crisis even worse than it is.

I have no idea why he did it.
The others are, you know, controversial, but I think ultimately eminently defensible.
Well, it must be the worst nomination for a cabinet position in American history.
I think this is something that falls well outside the scope of deference that should be given to a president in nominating members of his senior team.
