He was Pascal's man, essentially.

So he definitely has that going for him.

At the same time, I think for Fianna Gael and Fianna Fáil in this election, it will be more to see where they come further down the count sheet to see for the next election.

So he is a councillor.

So, you know, there's that going for him.

He's well known for his right wing and anti-immigration views.

And his vocal online has a decent following there as well.

But of course, you know, who follows you online doesn't necessarily speak to your success in an election situation.

I think what will be interesting about Malachy Steenson is how he transfers.

When he was knocked out, his transfers went heavily to Gerry Hutch and maybe one or the other of them could help each other to get further up that count sheet, depending on who's discounted first.

But for a by-election, again, it's just the bar is so much higher that I don't see it happening.

Yeah, so I kind of crunched the numbers on this and the turnout in the 2024 general was 33,000 for this constituency.

So half of that is 16,500.

But if you'd bring down the turnout to what it is generally by elections, about 35%, that's 22,100.

So half of that, you're talking 11,000 votes.

So, you know, it's still a long way to go when you're talking about really eking it out with about 6,000 at the top

Well with what's happened in the last couple of weeks with the fuel protests and Independent Ireland which is the party he is standing for very much supporting the protests speaking for them in some parts as well

Yes, he's going to benefit from that a lot.

And particularly in Galway West, you do have a large portion of rural voters there as well, who in large part certainly would be of the demographic of people that were protesting or maybe benefit from the package that was given by government.

And he's formerly Fianna Fáil.
