A message which struck a chord with the public in terms of the humanitarian side of it.
Wasn't afraid to criticise the FEI and the government for saying that the issue should have been dealt with was the phrase he used way before this and we have players put in what he said an uncomfortable position.
He didn't stop short of saying that the players would boycott the game or that they shouldn't go ahead but the sense of unease was very evident from his comments.
Yeah, so procedurally, the FAI being a member's organisation, does have the facility for members to raise motions.
And what we had on Friday was a motion submitted to the FAI on behalf of what the record was at 10% of what's known as the General Assembly.
So the structure of the FAI is that there's a board which sits on top, that's the ultimate arbiter, that's contained 12 people.
and beneath that then you have a wider and broader General Assembly of 145 people which represents all strands of the game and within that then you have the 10% of signatories who were put forward a motion which is a very single item agenda and that is that the FUE refused to participate in the two scheduled fixtures against Israel later this year on legal and moral grounds so that was officially submitted on Friday under the FUE constitution
the FUE have 21 days in which to reply to that and within that what they call requisition from that requisition date they have 60 days in which to schedule the American General meeting so what we expect to happen is that at an unspecified date which isn't today I know has been speculated as such but the FUE board are not meeting today but they will consider this matter
And I would expect that they will schedule an Emeritus General meeting for this motion to be balloted on by their membership.
And it's an ordinary resolution, so it only requires 51% to pass.
Yeah, it's those 145 members of the General Assembly.
They'll be entitled to vote.
But it is important to note, and they acknowledge this in the submission, the outcome of that ballot is non-binding on the FEI.
It doesn't have the legal clout within the Constitution to compel the FEI board to act.
So they acknowledge that, but in reality...
What it does is it places, as you said in your intro, more pressure on the FEI to take action.
And the only action that this group want is stop the game.
It's not move the game, which is probably likely going to be the compromise on this.
But this group, and they said it after the tennis ball protest, they won't stop until these games are cancelled.
Yeah.
