And as I was listening to the opening of the show, I think, you know, it just is a really great tie-in to my path to DECA when, you know, Stan mentioned ordinary people doing extraordinary things.
You know, as I was a high school student, I actually was a member of DECA, but was never...
particularly focused on the business aspects of the organization, but really the leadership aspects of the organization, and so served as a chapter officer and a state officer, and ultimately as a high school division president, and really wasn't thinking about the business side of the business, but really the personal leadership and organizational leadership aspect of that, and
And those suited me well through college.
I continued that leadership path by serving as the president of my college and interning at the then governor's field office in San Francisco and started my career in Sacramento after that, working for the assembly leadership and then been given an assignment with a new member of Congress

graduating up from that to the Senate majority leader's office and was on a perfectly good career there doing, you know, kind of what I thought was my part in, well, maybe not changing the world, but at least the state of California in a better, more positive
And that led me to working for an electric utility industry at the
peak of the state's energy crisis and lo and behold I got a request from DECA very much out of the blue their director of development was retiring and he happened to be an advisor of mine many many years prior when I was a student and they were just asking for letters for his retirement book and so I said I'm happy to send a letter for Tim and
next time you guys are in California, let me know and we will try to reconnect.
The executive director at the time said, well, that's great.

Is it something that you would be interested in?
At the time, that was not my career path at all.
I was now about 10 years deep into my public policy career.
And I figured that, you know, that was going to be my next step as well, either, again, in California or regional basis or at the national level.
