In the Northern Hemisphere, species migrate towards the North Pole, and in the Southern Hemisphere, they migrate towards the South Pole.

So essentially, these fish are fleeing to escape temperatures that are outside of the threshold in which they evolved.

And they

maybe evolution, give them another whatever, a thousand years, they may evolve to cope with this heat.

But in the short term, almost all species on Earth, when they encounter temperatures above their background threshold, they move if they can.

Absolutely.

We're seeing fish, for example, like the bluefin tuna, which would typically be more acclimatised to temperatures you'd experience in the Mediterranean.

That's getting too hot for them.

So they're moving to temperatures that are more in their range.

So we're seeing them and a number of other species are migrating into our waters.

And of course, this creates challenges for fishers in Ireland, for example, because they wouldn't have quotas under the Common Fisheries Policy for species like tuna.

Well, without quotas, you're not supposed to take them now, whether you do or not, of course.

You're not supposed to have any.

No, if you don't have a quota for tuna, then you can't legally take tuna.

It's as simple as that.

Now, there are bigger issues and sort of issues, Matt, that are related to this.

And this one will sound like a bit of a broken record.

But anyway, here we go.

Recently, the European Commission has begun legal proceedings against the Irish state over its failure to deliver marine protected areas as part of our legal commitments under the Habitats and Birds Directive.

This is something we see time and time again despite what we hear from people like Jack Chambers about how environmentalists and NGOs are ruining the country.
