People defamed me, they attacked me, they attacked me in the press, they attacked me to the commission.
And have I said anything?
No.
I've let these people serve on city boards.
I've not objected to former candidates for office.
I've not objected to former political operatives.
I've let all this go by because I believe in the practice and the process the city commission has followed for decades.
But apparently we don't do that anymore.
Shame, as I believe one of my former commissioners said uh one of my commissioners said uh in in a former uh meeting one time.
Shame.
I've met with um Broward Health um multiple times.
Do we know if if South Miami has a detention facility of its own?
I do not.
Okay.
Uh I I know uh I've been following the case in Fort Myers as well as the uh developing one up in Jacksonville right now, and I know the attorney general has written uh a very
strongly worded um letter to Fort Myers and and they reconsidered their opposition.
Um and I believe Jacksonville is moving forward with theirs, although I'm not sure if the mayor is going to sign it or not, but the city council up there is is certainly moving forward with it.
Um my my concern is I I know the uh I know the law
makes specific reference to county detention facilities, but I am concerned that once we stand up our own
detention facility to uh to address the the homeless issues that we've codified, um, that we will now have a detention facility.
