And I know in reading uh the Attorney General's letter, he is also making reference to the fact that uh municipalities that have law enforcement agencies that don't receive the requisite training in immigration law

i are implying that they are not then capable of enforcing immigration law because they don't have the training to do so.

Um and and that is in in his mind implying that that those cities are are in effect establishing themselves as sanctuary cities by not taking the training necessary to enforce the immigration law.

Is it an expectation that they are going to send a letter to every municipality in the state of Florida asking them to sign two hundred and eighty seven G agreements, or is it incumbent upon us to do so proactively if

It becomes an obligation for us.

Right.

I understand the federal requirements

From the federal perspective, it is a voluntary agreement which we can enter into or not enter into.

So I I don't anticipate ICE is going to be reaching out to every city and asking them to do so.

I think it's the state law that makes it incumbent on law enforcement agencies to proactively enter into these agreements, if I understand this.

I think perhaps because of the rushed nature of the legislation, um as we always say, as as Mr Stewart used to say, uh Florida statutes are not a model of clarity.

And I know when I was in Jacksonville, we constantly file J Bills, glitch bills, to to to fix things from one session to the next.

So I wouldn't be surprised if we see something in this current session that addresses what we're seeing in this lawsuit, specifically say, oops, we missed that and we should probably fix it.

Um but again I I think what i y you're right that it specifically addresses county detention facilities, uh whether the

the omission of the municipal defen detention facilities was an oversight or an intentional action on the part of the legislature, I guess is up for debate at this point.

Um I suspect more likely that they just weren't thinking in terms of municipalities having their own jails since most of them are run by county sheriffs around the state.

Um but you know that that that remains to be seen.
