And that is what has happened, that there is an awful toxic atmosphere in Fianna Fáil now.
There was a very interesting, and just to jump on a bit, to the parliamentary party meeting that discussed this report.
There was a very interesting contribution from a young TD, he's only 30 years of age, Ryan O'Mara from Tipperary North,
where he said that he was alluding to the bad atmosphere and the bad feeling that had emerged in the parliamentary party that he's just entered.
And he said, while saying that Jack Chambers, the deputy leader, had contacted him asking for his backing of Jim Gavin, Jack Chambers had put no pressure on him whatsoever because he would...
would only represent the views of those who had selected him in Fianna Fáil and those rural Fianna Fáil parties have big memberships and they had selected him as a candidate for the election and he would run on their behalf.
But the clear implication was that the
constituency group in Tipperary were not happy with what was going on and he would go back there and get their representation when he decides ultimately what has to happen in the party so there was a young TD pointing out that the strife has become extremely damaging to them all and
That was where the centre ground sat on their hands in that parliamentary party meeting.
They didn't express a view one way or another.
The centre ground are hoping for an orderly and bloodless transfer of power far sooner than initially would have been felt.
And I would say, I was one of those journalists who last July...
felt erroneously now as it turns out that Micheál Martin's progress in politics was a long time ahead you know he's an extremely healthy people may approach it in a facetious manner but he's an extremely healthy youthful looking man and could go on and on
Well, he has stated that twice on the record.
Again, in some of the discussions I had, there's a feeling, a belief that Jim O'Callaghan needs more time, that he didn't ask for any of this.
He's not yet a year in office, but by January of 2027, he'll be almost two years.
And this is what the person said, whether you agree with it or not, that he would have obtained more experience of his current brief in justice, but also a broader understanding of policy
in housing and health and everything else.
And again, they're all looking to that as an adequate handover of power.
I think Jim O'Callaghan is an extremely impressive individual for a number of reasons, but not least his position in the country.
