He's in Dublin Bay South, which is an evocative constituency where Gareth Fitzgerald, for instance, once represented.
But it brings in that whole crescent of Dublin South
into the area Fianna Fáil would like to dominate.
It is the most populous area of Ireland.
Most people live there and it brings a certain prestige if you have a number of candidates from that area.
It's interesting that Danny mentions Dara Kaliri.
There was a very interesting visit by Jim O'Callaghan to Mayo last week where he, and it's unusual for a cabinet minister to visit another cabinet minister's constituency and the two of them be so openly together in the fashion that they were.
They're going to Garda Stations and doing run-the-mill stuff, I would point out.
They also, I understand, sat beside each other in the parliamentary party meeting the other night.
And it had been said to me quite a while ago.
A joint ticket?
Well, quite a while ago, and I'm not sure if we mentioned it here, that the same membership of Dublin Bay South, Fianna Fáil membership there,
could be, I'm not sure exactly what it is, but it wouldn't be much more than 50 or 60.
Whereas if you go to somewhere like Mayo, it's 400, 500 people are members there.
That means that Derek Leary, because of the complex nature of Fianna Fáil electoral, their electoral system, it's weighted
Members have a say and a person west of the Shannon, somewhere like Limerick, somewhere like Kerry, somewhere like Mayo, could deliver an awful lot of votes.
And they can not only influence those votes, they bring in a number of members of the parliamentary party.
And I would look for a dream ticket of Jim O'Callaghan and Dara Cleary as playing a role in the future.
Yeah, the bar's been set high.
